number TWO

waverley street

the attic of mystery and adventure

What a riot. These four tracks are from a much larger collection of tunes written and recorded on the fly in an attic. Even though we're calling it Waverley here, that house was technically on Cartier. Perhaps it's obvious, but all of these tracks were all pulled together quite hastily and with the support of a number of organic and chemical materials. This work is actually the output of both myself and my dear old friend Chad from Alberta. We were roommates and, on a lark, we rented an 8 track and spent the winter banging out tunes in the attic of this old Victorian home.

The many, many tracks not included in this list include a number of tripy techno and electronic tracks, all interspersed with hazy beats and foggy melodies. We should add those to the SoundCloud, just for the sake of being complete. But truthfully, those tracks don't fit with the PlasticHearts progression we're trying to document here...and Lordy how we love to take ourselves so seriously.

As off the cuff and half-assed as these tracks may be, there are some interesting little bits. To this day, I'm still quite proud of the sound we found on "Leave it Alone" which, to me, wouldn't be out of place on a Rubber Soul rip off collection. The synth french horns, in particular, feels really nice even to this day. It was also at this point that the George Martin-esque doubled vocal tracks took hold - something that would be used to greater effect in later recordings.
